Node.js (Express/NestJS) — Python (FastAPI/Django) as the alternative if the team prefers it for the AI-heavy services

Backend language is a real choice, not a formality: Node.js keeps one language across the stack with React; Python is the stronger fit if the AI assistant grows into heavier data-science or ML work in Phase 2. Either integrates cleanly with the same database and API design — we'd recommend Node.js for the MVP and revisit for the AI microservice in Phase 2.
